LumiHome was built in five days by five students at AI Week 2026 at ETH Zurich, run by Hebbian together with the Department of Computer Science. The idea was recognized and awarded at ETH AI Week 2026, standing out among 16 competing teams and receiving recognition from a professional jury representing ETH Zurich, Google, and the private sector.
A home is full of small things competing for our attention. A hob left on after dinner. A door that did not quite latch. The keys you were sure you left on the table.
Individually they seem small. Together they create a constant background question. Did I forget something?
Most smart-home technology answers that by adding more. More apps, more alerts, more commands, more to manage.
A quiet layer of intelligence that notices what matters, and stays in the background when it does not.
LumiHome is designed to understand the everyday rhythm of a home. It can help remember where everyday objects were last seen, notice things that may have been left open or running, and recognise situations that deserve attention.
No app needs to be constantly checked. No wake word needs to be remembered. No stream of unnecessary notifications.
Privacy sits at the centre of the concept, so the intelligence stays where it belongs, inside the home.
AI Week brings high-school students from around the world to ETH Zurich for five intensive days of building, testing and pitching. In 2026, 65 students from 23 countries took part.
The LumiHome team came together on the first day around a problem all five members recognised at once. Over the week they defined the customer, shaped the business idea and turned the concept into a working prototype.
On the Friday they presented LumiHome to an audience and that jury.
One week. One idea. One working prototype. And this is only the beginning.
This page introduces the project. The working prototype stays private while the team keeps developing it, so what is here is the problem, the idea and the week behind them.
